This Michihamono 1.5mm skew chisel, with a high-speed steel blade, is a specialised tool for both skilled and novice wood carvers. Designed to access hard-to-reach corners that would obstruct standard skew chisels, the exceptionally small blade carves with absolute precision. Crafted by artisans from the renowned Japanese manufacturer Michihamono, using high-speed steel and sakura wood, this tool exemplifies exceptional quality and craftsmanship.
Excellent for intricate and specialised tasks such as carving the insides of facial features on figurines, inside the corners of tiny boxes or drawers, or behind the features of the smallest relief carvings, this tool offers exceptional versatility and precision.

To use, hold the handle firmly as you would a pen with your dominant hand, while using your non-dominant hand to help angle and apply additional force as needed.
Also available in other blade sizes (sold separately): 2mm, 3mm, 4.5mm, 6mm, 7.5mm, 9mm, 10.5mm, 12mm, 15mm, and 18mm.
Store without the blade contacting any hard surface to avoid dulling the cutting edge. The blade is sharp; keep out of the reach of children.
Please keep in mind that this quality wood carving tool features an extremely fine, detailed blade that should only be handled with great caution. Follow the guidelines below to avoid breaking or bending the blade:
- Do not strike this tool with any object, such as a mallet, when cutting wood.
- Do not attempt to remove large amounts of wood per stroke. Trim or shave only a small amount of wood from your project at a time using multiple small strokes.
- Do not use this tool to penetrate the wood any more than the thickness of the blade.
- Never use the blade of this tool as a lever to remove wood.
- Cutting strokes should be only vertical (i.e., up or down) with minimal pressure applied.
- Horizontal shearing force, in any axis, should never be applied.
