The shallow gouge blade will help you take on the medium-sized details of your project and is also good for setting in shapes and finishing them off. Its 10.5mm shallow gouge that is made to be used with either one or two hands is great for hollowing out the wood surface and for carving convex and concave surfaces.

Approximate Dimensions & Product Data:

  • Blade Material: Blue Paper Steel (Aogami) No.2
  • Blade Width: 10.5mm
  • Handle Material: Japanese Cypress Wood
  • Handle Length: 180mm

To use this shallow wood carving gouge, hold the handle firmly in the palm of your right hand to push the tool on the surface of the wood. Then hold the middle part of the handle with your right hand to guide with the carving. In this way, you can have more control of the tool and while preventing the tool from going in different directions when carving the wood. Continue carving until the desired depth of the wood is reached. When the time comes, sharpen the blade using a whetstone or oil stone, preferably one that is designed specifically for use with wood carving tools.

Please note: The blade edge is sharp, keep out of the reach of children. Store without the blade contacting any hard surface to avoid dulling the cutting edge.
