This high-quality skiving knife from Kyoshin Elle is made of high-quality steel and skillfully honed, resulting in a razor-sharp blade that will last for years. Although this tool is meant for left-handed people, some right-handed people prefer the bevel on the side of the blade seen in the photo because it allows them to skiver leather with the aid of their thumb. This skiving knife, unlike others, is intended to be pulled towards you while cutting freehand, providing you complete control during use.

For cutting leather, place it on a good quality cutting mat, then insert the appropriate corner of the blade into the leather and draw the knife towards you, twisting the blade in the direction you want to cut. To maintain control and limit the possibility of slippage, make sure your blade is cutting both the mat and your leather. Pitch the handle of the knife away from you while cutting around corners for better control, and pitch the handle of the blade towards you when cutting straight lines for straighter and more efficient cutting.

For skiving, place your leather flesh side up on a hard surface that the blade cannot cut, such as glass, with the edge you want to skive facing away from you. Holding the knife with the bevel facing upwards and the edge of the blade facing in the same direction as the edge of the leather, or at a slight angle as preferred, cut your leather outwards or across from where you would like the skive to begin straight through to the edge of the leather.

As with other Japanese blades, keep it dry and store it in a way that prevents the cutting edge from coming into contact with hard surfaces.
